Being Drum Major of high school marching band The leaders of the DHS Marching Band and myself Feature: I was the Drum major of my high school band for two
years. My second year I was given the reigns as head drum major. Basically, I was in charge of the marching band. I led them
through the half time show for contests and conducted them through the half-
time show. I had to make sure that all the different personalities of
everyone was working and getting along so that we could function at peak
performance. Accomplishment: Both years that I was drum major, our band made the highest
ratings possible in band competitions. I helped delegate power to other
upperclassmen to make a more efficient system. This helped us learn our
drill faster. Also I helped make a better way of teaching marching
fundamentals to the freshmen. Benefit: This allowed us to work faster than before with less interruptions
and balances of power. This allowed the band directors to work on other
important things such as changes to our show and changes in the music. The
could concentrate on more important things rather than things that the drum
majors could take care of for them. This experience helped my team work
and leadership and motivational skills. These are skills that I will need
later in the career of my choice. |
